Not Chilling the Spleen

Is raw food good for you?

🔥 Not Chilling the Spleen

Warmth is fundamental to digestion.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, digestion is understood as a process sustained by the Digestive Fire. When this fire is strong, transformation is efficient. When it is weakened, the system becomes sluggish.

Excessive consumption of cold or raw foods—particularly over time—can dampen this fire. This may eventually lead to a decline in Spleen function, with the development of Dampness, Mucus, or general fatigue.

While raw foods have their place, they must be used appropriately and in accordance with the individual’s constitution. For many, especially those with weakened digestion, warm and cooked foods provide far greater support.
